There are some spaces in the city that completely capture my imagination, and La Patisserie Chouquette is one of them. I absolutely understand that the main attraction is the pastry – but every time I am there I feel like I’ve been transported to a different and more elegant version of the world, where people take care that everything is pleasing to the senses.
Located at 1626 Tower Grove Avenue in St. Louis (near Olio and not far from MOBOT) La Patisserie Chouquette is the home of pastry chef Simone Faure and her stunning sweet (and sometimes savory) creations. But as much as I love pastry, whenever I walk in Chouquette I am immediately distracted by the feeling of the shop. Gold chandeliers, original tin ceilings painted bright white, glass cases full of treasures, reclaimed wooden pews for seating… it’s as if someone pulled my ideal happy place straight from my brain and made it reality.
Chouquette does a wonderful job documenting their own creations. If you’re not following their Instagram feed, you absolutely should be.

So even though we enjoyed the most delicious quiche I’ve ever tasted (I don’t think I’ve ever had a proper quiche until yesterday) I didn’t focus on capturing the goodies in this gallery. I did try to capture the feel of the patisserie, the soft light, the muted colors and the way it makes you feel like a princess the moment you step inside.
Stop by Chouquette to pick up treats Tu-Fri 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. or Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. You can also order custom cakes, and if you really feel like treating yourself, book a space for afternoon tea service, on Saturdays (by reservation only) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
